During this time of the summer, the temperatures can become unbearable at times. This is particularly true for the Midwest region. As a resident of Ohio, it is important to prepare your family for the next heat wave that passes. By remaining hydrated, staying cool with air conditioners, and updating your Ohio home insurance policy, you may receive security and protection on all fronts.
Last week, the new record temperature of 102 degrees for Dayton reached record books last Thursday. However, this “honor” led local officials to declare a heat warning, resulting in the opening of cooling centers to provide relief. Public Health of Dayton and Montgomery County announced that a “Public Health Heat Warning” will remain in effect until further notice as highs are expected to remain above 90 degrees.

Not only were humans in danger of the extreme heat, but so were animals. This is why the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center was called to various homes to help dogs survive the weather. They advise to keep dogs hydrated and fed in order to not feel distress. Also, the heat combined with windy, dry conditions fueled several grass fires.
At Barker, Beck, Collins & Kronauge Agency , we encourage all homeowners to follow these rules and if circumstances have it, report to the nearest cooling center. The community support felt in the area for those in need is what inspires us to protect local residents as well. Are you guilty of speeding down the road when you think no one is watching? Although you may be alone on portions of the road, that doesn’t mean accidents are impossible. What if you hit a deer and destroy your vehicle? Or what if you slide in the rain and crash into a tree? All of these incidents are possible, which is why it is important to mind the speed limit and have Ohio auto insurance for back up protection.
Some traffic safety tool can benefit the community when it comes to reducing speeding. However, after months of discussion, the city of Riverside has decided against the idea of installing photo enforcement cameras at key intersections. City Council chose not to pursue a contract with Redflex Traffic Systems due to payment issues. The company conducted a 12-hour survey on February 27 for both red-light and speed violations at five intersections. To counteract the data collected, Police Chief Mark Reiss provided crash data from four intersections over a three-year span (2009-11) for City Council to review and analyze.

The four intersections were Airway-Woodman, Old Troy Pike-Needmore, Burkhardt-Woodman, and Valley Pike-Harshman. The number of accidents at those four intersections combined decreased from 107 in 2010 to 86 in 2011. Citywide, Riverside police issued about 1,500 more traffic citations in 2011 than in 2010, and accidents decreased by nearly 100 from 2010 to 2011. Reiss said, “It appears the public is largely obeying the speed limits and the traffic signals.”
Although this city did not need the systems, perhaps another area will benefit from it. No matter what tools are used to keep drivers safe, the responsibility starts with the motorist. You don’t want to make careless acts and speed in your vehicle when you could follow the speed limit if you had left on time. At Barker, Beck, Collins & Kronauge Agency, we encourage all drivers to obey the rules of the road so they can avoid serious collisions. However, if the unpredictable occurs, you will need Ohio auto insurance as a safeguard. This policy will fit your specific needs and budget. Your plan can be designed to include coverage such as uninsured motorist, collision, medical injury protection, bodily injury liability, and much more. By addressing your individual needs, we can tailor insurance so that it helps protect you against financial loss.
Are you thinking about making some improvements to your home this summer? Why not start with your patio! This is a great place to open up so you can have guests, let your children play freely, or sit out and enjoy a cool night. However, before you begin a large project, make sure to notify your Ohio home insurance agent. Doing so will help you alter your policy to your requirements.
Many experts agree that upgrading your outdoor patio is a good project to take on this summer. Also, since June is National Homeownership Month, this gives you more reason to make positive changes to your residence. The month highlights the role homeownership plays in improving lives, creating jobs, and strengthening communities, according to the Ohio Housing Finance Agency. Some tips to improve your patio include:

• Clean and seal your patio in a semigloss or high-gloss finish, which may cost under $100.
• Improve the landscaping around your patio by planting flower beds, shrubbery, and adding mulch. This project will make the patio feel larger, giving it texture and definition.
• Add colorful wind chimes for about $200. Or you can purchase large hanging baskets. Buying four to six should cost about $200.
• Build a water fountain. Buy a water garden with a small pump, and add rocks, pebbles, and wood. This project may cost about $500.
• Build a fire pit. This is an inexpensive way to add character to your patio and to enjoy time outside throughout the year. This may cost less than $500.
• Light up your patio with stylish outdoor solar lighting. This will add personality and ambiance to your outdoor area. This project may cost about $700.
• Create a grill island for entertaining or enjoying a quiet dinner. This project may cost $1,000 and up.
At Barker, Beck, Collins & Kronauge Agency, we hope these helpful tips and ideas inspire you to get started on your project. No matter how big or small the undertaking, construction on your property may alter your Ohio home insurance policy. As a driver, you always need to be aware of your surroundings. When you are in a city area, this can become more difficult since distractions are heightened. Learning to cope with the unpredictable events the road can bring will allow you to become a safer driver. In addition, this may also help you avoid collisions and claims on your Ohio auto insurance.

Do you feel like it is a struggle to get around in the downtown Dayton area? This may have now changed with the combination of technology and maps. The Downtown Dayton Partnership has launched Find It Downtown Mobile, a web-based search tool that functions like a mobile app on iPhones, Droids, and other smartphones. The tool is designed to direct visitors to downtown dining, nightlife, parking, shopping, arts and more. The app also has a searchable calendar of events and provides business contact info, details, and directions.
Do you think this tool would be useful on your travels? Now you can bring your family to some fun activities this summer with a little less stress. However, just like your family, many other people will be venturing out to these events. This may mean more traffic, and potentially, more collisions. In order to avoid serious damages and financial loss during an accident, you will need the support of Ohio auto insurance. At Barker, Beck, Collins & Kronauge Agency, we are dedicated to protecting you and your vehicle. Our typical policy will provide coverage for bodily injury, property damage, and will often cover rental reimbursement and roadside assistance. By addressing your individual needs, we can tailor your package so that it helps protect you against the obstacles of the road!
